Masons Ironstone
Mason’s Ironstone began in 1813, founded by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England. He patented a durable ironstone china that mimicked porcelain but was far more resilient—ideal for everyday use. Its rich glazes, Oriental-inspired patterns, and deep Imari colors quickly became a hallmark of British ceramics. Mason’s Ironstone gained popularity not only in Britain but across the globe, prized for both beauty and strength.
Throughout the 19th century, the brand thrived, introducing bold, hand-painted designs that captured the imagination of collectors and aristocrats alike. By the 20th century, Mason’s passed through several owners but maintained its classic style, even as production methods modernized.
In the 1960s, it was acquired by the Wedgwood Group, which preserved its heritage while expanding international reach. Though original factory production ceased in the early 2000s, Mason’s Ironstone remains a collector’s favorite—its timeless designs still in demand.
