Waterford Crystal’s story begins in 1783, when brothers George and William Penrose founded a crystal factory in the port town of Waterford, Ireland. Their vision was to create glass that would be "as fine a quality as any in Europe"—and they succeeded. Waterford quickly gained a reputation for its clarity, brilliance, and intricate craftsmanship.
Though the original factory closed in 1851, the brand was revived in 1947 by Charles Bacik and Miroslav Havel, who rekindled the tradition of exquisite crystal-making using original drawings and techniques. Havel’s designs laid the foundation for many of Waterford’s most iconic patterns, including Lismore, now the best-selling crystal pattern in the world.
Over the decades, Waterford Crystal has graced royal tables, lit the Times Square Ball in New York, and been presented as a symbol of elegance and prestige. Each piece reflects centuries of artistry, precision, and Irish pride.
Today, Waterford remains a global luxury brand, celebrated not just for its sparkling beauty but for the timeless craftsmanship behind every cut and facet.
